Tour Description
Day 1 - Overnight in Barcelona, Petit Palace Boqueria Garden or similar - D
Welcome to Spain! Upon arrival at the airport, a driver will be waiting for you outside of security to transfer you to the hotel. We’ll officially kick off the tour when we meet up in the evening for an introduction to Spanish tapas. We’ll spend our time exploring some of the local spots, enjoying tapas and Spanish wine. It’ll be the perfect introduction to local Spanish cuisine.
Day 2 - Overnight in Barcelona, Petit Palace Boqueria Garden or similar - B
Today will begin with an exploratory tour of Barcelona. We’ll see some of the highlights, learn about the city and what makes it tick. Some of the sites we’ll see are Parc Montjuic, La Rambla, The Gothic Quarter and more. We’ll end our tour at Gaudi’s famous Segrada Familia. Did you know it’s the tallest church in the world and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site? Optional Activity: Evening visits to Gaudi's Batlló and Casa Milà.
Day 3 - Overnight in Barcelona, Petit Palace Boqueria Garden or similar - B, L
Today we'll learn a bit more about Spanish cuisine as we experiece a hands-on cooking class. After visiting the Mercat de la Boqueria (or Mercat de Sant Josep), we'll spend our time in class learning to make homemade sangria and a typical Catalan paella. After our work is done, we'll sit down to lunch and enjoy our creations.
Day 4 - Overnight in Laguardia, Hotel Castillo el Collado or similar, B, D
After breakfast and checking out, we’ll start our journey to the Rioja wine region. We’ll begin on the high speed train to Zaragoza where we’ll meet our driver and transfer to our Laguardia hotel. After checking in and some free time to grab lunch, we’ll enjoy a short tour of the town, stopping at a couple of wine caves. It’ll be our first true introduction to the wines of the Rioja region. We’ll end at a local restaurant for dinner as a group.
Day 5 - Overnight in Laguardia, Hotel Castillo el Collado or similar, B, L
Today it’s time to visit the wineries of this famous region. We’ll begin with a visit to a family-owned estate where we’ll learn about life in Rioja and enjoy tasting their wines. Our next stop will be at another winery where we’ll tour their facility before sitting down to lunch served with their wines. It will be fun to enjoy the beautiful countryside of the area.
Day 6 - Overnight in Laguardia, Hotel Castillo el Collado or similar, B
Today we’ll visit the town of Logroña - the vibrant capital of the Rioja wine-producing region and a major stopping point on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route. Here you'll have some free time to explore the city and grab lunch before meeting up with the group for a wine tasting course. It will be a fun afternon learning more about the wines of the region and getting a better understanding of the different sensory stages of tasting wine. After our time in Logroña we'll return to Laguardia where you'll have the evening to spend as you'd like.
Day 7 - Overnight in San Sebastian, Sensabay Hotel or similar, B, L
After breakfast and checking out, we’ll make our way toward San Sebastian, first stopping in the seaside village of Getaria, famous for its open-air fish grills, sparkling Txakolí wine, and notable historical figures. We’ll start with a bit of free time to explore the small streets and shops on our ownbefore meeting for lunch at a local restaurant. Or course, we'll try some of the sparkling local Txakoli wine. After our time in Getaria, we’ll make our way to San Sebastian where, after checking into our hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day free to explore on your own.
Day 8 - Overnight in San Sebastian, Sensabay Hotel or similar, B, L
Today it’s time to explore the Spanish culture as we begin our day with a Flamenco class. In this relaxed and fun class you’ll learn some new moves and better understand why the flamenco is such a huge part of Spanish culture. After our class, we’ll be wanting some sustenance and what better way to do that than to enjoy the famous Pintxos of San Sebastian. We’ll spend the afternoon exploring why San Sebastian has the reputation of being one of the best food cities in the world. We’ll experience true Basque cuisine as we explore two neighborhoods: trendy Gros and the historic Old Town, where pintxos culture was born. After eating and drinking our way through the city, you’ll have the rest of the evening to enjoy as you choose.
Day 9 - Overnight in San Sebastian, Sensabay Hotel or similar, B, L (pintxo after the hike)
Today we’ll get outside of the city to experiece the surrounding nature as we hike part of the Camino de Santiago. We’ll begin in San Sebastian and work our way to the fishing village of Pasaia San Pedro, enjoying views along with way. We'll make a stop and visit the Ulia Lighthouse. Once in San Pedro, we’ll end with a pintxo and a drink before being transferred back to San Sebastian. The rest of the day will be free to spend as you’d like.
Day 10 - Overnight in Bilbao, Miro Hotel or similar - B, D
After breakfast and checking out, we’ll transfer to Bilbao, known for the famous Guggenheim Museum and Avant-Garde design. We’ll fist visit the museum where we’ll enjoy a tour of the highlights with a local guide. After the tour, you’ll have some free time to explore the museum a bit longer on your own or wander the town a bit. In the evening we’ll meet up as a group and enjoy our farewell dinner where we’ll toast to new friends made and wonderful memories.
Day 11 - B
Unfortunately our time in Spain has come to an end. After breakfasst you’ll be transferred to the airport according to your flight time home.
